Tagaytay City, Philippines - The Student Catholic Action of the Philippines Board unanimously approved and appointed one of its members, Cyril Ryan "Kuya Cy" A. Lituañas as SCAP's new executive director (ED) during its annual meeting on 30th of January 2021. The movement resolved to thank also the great services and commitment rendered by former ED, Atty. Alma "Ate Kins" E. Aparece since 2014.
Getting to know the new ED
Kuya Cy is the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at De La Salle University. He served as the Coordinator for Community Faith-building Ministry in the Lasallian Pastoral Office before his current assignment. Like Ate Kins, he hails from Bohol. He was inducted as SCAn from the Diocese of Tagbilaran Secretariat and served as SCA Secretary-General during college. He was elected a pioneer student representative in the National Coordinating Council from 2001 to 2003 and became the Diocesan Commission on Youth Coordinator in the Diocese of Tagbilaran after graduation. He joined the National Secretariat from 2007 to 2011, volunteered in the SCAP National Formation Team, and was appointed to the board in 2018.
In a White and Blue interview and article, Kuya Cy shared:
My interest and understanding of the complexities of society started when I got involved in the Student Catholic Action. These interests became a reflexive phenomenon in my life... For many years of working with the youth, I have witnessed that activities believed to have impacted the youth are retained even if they do not respond anymore to their needs. The activities, values, and practices sometimes become a tradition of the youth ministry structure. It is a challenge for a leader to convince the current student leaders to reflect on these ritualistic activities that have become a tradition to the present generation. Everything is God’s gift. Today, SCA owes the spirit the Columban missionaries shared more than 80 years ago. It is their gift to the Filipino youth. I am grateful and honored to be part of this long history of one of the oldest religious youth organizations in the Philippines.
The SCAP ED leads the operations of the national secretariat, which is the implementing body of the movement. The national secretariat mobilizes the decisions and plans carried over from the national conference and national coordinating council represented by elected cluster coordinators and student representatives in high school and college.
Since 2007, SCAP welcomed and affirmed the shepherding of the following SCAn-leaders who willingly shared their time, talent, and treasure as executive directors:
+ Teresita "Titatet" E. Nitorreda (2007)
Sonia M. Roco (2012)
Atty. Alma "Ate Kins" E. Aparece (2014)
Our deep gratitude to Ate Kins, and welcome to Kuya Cyril!
