Reflection and Action: Strengthening Connections and Collaboration

SCAP National Secretariat - August to September 2024

The importance of collaboration and building strong networks through a healthy coordination has been highlighted from the experiences and reflections of the student leaders of SCA during the 14th National Leadership Conference. This August and September, work towards stronger connections and collaborations have been made:

After a year of operations, Bahay-SCAn Peace Library received a generous amount of donations: books, toys, and materials for maintenance. With the library gaining more tools and resources to be used, it is now ready to extend its reach to more people promoting literacy and cultures of peace.

About the Peace Library and the training with De La Salle University Libraries

Last August 22, 2024, Bahay-SCAn Peace Library Volunteers, together with friends from Maya Learning Space and Friends Peace Teams-Asia West Pacific, went on a library tour and basic integrated library system training by the De La Salle University Libraries. The volunteers explored Librarika, a Free Integrated Library System, which will allow for easier access to the resources of the Bahay-SCAn Peace Library.

The Bahay-SCAn Peace Library is a partnership between Friends Peace Teams and SCA Philippines, and this Book donation and ILS Training Project is a partnership between De La Salle University Libraries and SCA Philippines.

Reflections from the Organizing Team: San Fernando La Union to strengthen SCA Presence

Last September 7, 2024, the SCAP National Secretariat had an online evaluation and reflection with the Organizing Team - Local Organizing Committee, the National Coordinating Council, and the NLC Volunteers - of the 14th SCAP National Leadership Conference. The session focused on the conference's evaluation, the volunteers' learnings, and everyone's commitment to action after the conference.

Highlights of the Reflection and Evaluation

One prevailing theme during the reflection was the space for growth and learning that the National Leadership Conference provided for the organizing team. Through guidance from the area heads and coordination with the NLC Chair, the student leaders could learn more about their gifts and themselves.

Another theme is the concept of working as a team. Coming from different backgrounds, and with the unexpected circumstances, many adjustments needed to be made in terms of interacting with one another and planning for the conference. This allowed the organizing team to learn a lot about flexibility and adaptability without losing the main essence or goal of the conference.

The conference also got a very high rating from the participants with great focus on the value of having a conference that allows for learning exchange with the communities, ample time for reflection and sharing, and a clear call for action towards the end. The session ended with the delegates creating a gesture of hope, embodying the dreams and hopes of everyone for SCA and for their communities.

As everyone goes back to their respective units, a renewed commitment to serving and transforming the communities in Word and in Action is made. SCA Leaders from the Diocese of San Fernando of La Union are now trying to strengthen and widen the reach of SCA in the diocese by introducing it to their schools and parishes.

Enriching the Faith

matter what, our goals, objectives, programs, and advocacies must always begin with the Lord and must end with us closer to the Lord.

Setting Directions

Setting the Course: SCA's direction for the next 3 years

Carrying the resolutions from the 14th National Leadership Conference, the learnings from the past three years, and the realities of SCA Units all over the country, the National Team of SCA, together with the Volunteer Consultants, convened at the Bahay-SCAn Formation Center last August 23-26, 2024 for the Annual reflection and planning. One of the fruits is the relaunch of My Gift for Change:

Hope in Action through My Gift for Change: SCA Philippines’ Campaign for Social Transformation

“My Gift for Change” supports SCA Philippines’ various national formation programs and advocacies for capacitating students, chaplains, and teacher-animators in accompanying their communities in schools, colleges, and universities. These initiatives guide the students in creating sustainable projects in peace and social justice, values education, environmental sustainability, science and technology, and new media.
