Call for SCAP Application: IYCS opens World Council Nominations, Nigeria to host in August

The International Young Catholic Students (IYCS) announces the call for participation to the 2019 World Council in Abuja, Nigeria from August 30 to September 10, 2019.

The IYCS World Council is the largest IYCS gathering. It happens every after four years to reflect, discuss and present plan of actions of agreed advocacy on a global scale. The Review of Life, the methodology that SCA shares with IYCS will be applied to various activities such as exposure or immersion, workshops, debates, and conference proceedings.


The Student Catholic Action of the Philippines is an active member-movement of IYCS. IYCS is committed to the United Nations with consultative status to the Economic and Social Commission (ECOSOC) and operational status at UNESCO. The Holy See recognizes the movement as an International Catholic Organization and the Pontifical Council for the laity is its dicastery. Mainly composed of pupils and students, it is present in 87 countries.


IYCS GUIDELINES FOR THE APPLICATION


SELECTION OF DELEGATES

SCA Philippines can send up to a maximum of 4 delegates taking into account gender balance. In the case where the delegation is 3, it must include one female and one male student and an Animator/Chaplain.


PARTICIPATION AND RELATED COSTS

The International Secretariat with the support of YCS Nigeria will cover for the cost of accommodation throughout the period of the World Council (August 30 – September 10), as well as airport transfer in Abuja, however, each delegate is expected to pay a participation contribution of 50€. The delegates, with the help of the national movement, will defray the cost of transportation to and from Abuja, Nigeria.


SCA PHILIPPINES GUIDELINES FOR NOMINATIONS


Required for all levels (based from SCAP Operations Manual):

  • Active involvement in the movement for at least one year

  • Commissioned as full-fledged SCAn (for HS and College); Has attended Basic Orientation Workshop/SCAfe (for Animators)

  • Will attend the preparatory workshop and evaluation schedule arranged by the national secretariat

  • Willing to serve the movement for at least one year after representation

PROCESS FOR NOMINATION & SELECTION

  1. Submission of Personal Profile and Letter of Intent on or before May 4, 2019.

  2. Announcement of official delegates on May 6, 2019.

FINANCIAL SHARING (from SCAP OM)

  • Participant's Share - all related to personal legal/formal/official documents like passport processing, birth certificate authentication, visa application, etc. including pocket money.

  • Arch/diocesan and/or Unit Share - help raise funds for local and international travel

  • SCAP National Secretariat - IYCS World Council registration fees, local airfare (if coming from Visayas and/or Mindanao)
