Inspiring Action in Communities: The NLC Experience

What does collaboration for justice and peace look like?

This is one of the questions the 14th National Leadership Conference tried to answer.

SCAP welcomed friends outside SCA as participants for the National Leadership Conference. Sharing the realities, experiences, and best practices, it gave way to an interesting dynamics of unlearning, learning, and relearning.

Here is Rain, a delegate from San Pedro College of Davao, sharing her 14th National Leadership Conference Experience:

I had been to several leadership and youth gatherings and, honestly, SCA NLC was the one that struck me the most.

I always struggle to identify purpose in these activities and to seek the good aftermath. How are these experiences going to benefit me and the community I’m serving?

— Fortunately, my time with the SCA youth has provided me with answers.

The passion and action that comes from serving was really lived out by the leaders I met at the event. Most of the time, the Leadership Concepts and theories are highlighted, but not in this Conference. The activities and talks were not only comprehensive bur were also moving and concrete in their applications to the community and to our lives. I am surprised that I only recently met SCA when they have a wide range of contributions and action for the society.

To sum this up, it dawned on me how the youth could become powerful and could actually create CHANGE.

I truly valued my time during this national conference. I was able to apply my learnings on how I function with my organization at school. I also knew my participation there was worthy as I established ties with inspiring individuals I look up to from around the country; their efforts actually humbled me that I realized my mediocrity hence, I could achieve and be more.

This experience might be new and unfamiliar at times but it’s the most fulfilling and memorable experience I had to date. My answer to this might seem flattering and flowery because frankly it is!
