SCAns continue to be Witnesses of the Faith in communities in Word and Action as they are inspired by the stories of the people before them.
Among these stories is the life if Saint Augustine of Hippo, which touched the lives of many people, including SCAn Marinell Panaguiton, from the Archdiocese of Cebu, who shares her reflection on the Feast of Saint Augustine:
St. Augustine's story has always resonated with me. His journey from restless intellectual to dedicated believer, laid bare in his Confessions, mirrors my own struggles with doubt and the search for meaning.
Reading his words, I feel seen - his vulnerability and honesty gave me permission to be honest with myself, to acknowledge my own failings, and to seek forgiveness.
His emphasis on God's grace, a free and undeserved gift, offers a profound sense of hope, reminding me that I am loved and accepted despite my imperfections.
His teachings on love and humility have also deeply impacted my life. The idea that Love is the foundation of all virtues, that it should guide our actions, has become a guiding principle for me. And his emphasis on humility, on letting go of ego and serving others, has helped me to become a more compassionate and selfless person.
Augustine's life, shaped by mentors and community, reminds me of the importance of surrounding myself with people who support and challenge me on my spiritual journey. And his words, "our hearts are restless until they rest in him," resonate deeply.
They remind me that true happiness and fulfillment come not from worldly pursuits but from a deeper connection with something beyond myself.
Augustine's life and teachings offer a timeless roadmap for navigating the complexities of life and finding lasting peace.
SCAn Marinell Panaguiton is a second-year psychology student at the University of San Jose-Recoletos and the Vice President of the SCAP Cebu USJR Unit.
